China ‘ll continue to work closely with Nigeria –Foreign Minister

The People’s Republic of China will continue to work closely with Nigeria towards improving the bilateral relations of the two nations, the Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister, Mr. Wang Yi has said.
Mr. Wang who made this known in Abuja while fielding questions from the media noted that China values its relation with Nigeria.
He said that with the celebration of 50 years of bilateral relations with Nigeria, both nations have benefitted a lot from each other in the area of development.
“There is need for us to celebrate our 50 years relationship and take stock on how we have fared as nations. We have supported each other greatly. The platform has provided much needed synergy and deepened regional cooperation between the two nations”.
Wang who was on a state visit to Nigeria said China will continue to strengthen partnership with Nigeria and work closely to promote development in the context of Belt and Road Initiative.
He announced that military and defence cooperation entered into by the two nations will strengthen national security.
Wang maintained that China needs to support Africa towards economic recovery and stability in the polity.
He pledged the upholding of banner of multilateralism and stated that Nigerians are always welcome to China anytime.
Continuing, Wang said that China has always pledged non-interference on the domestic affairs of African states, but will continue to contribute in great measures for better life to African people.
He noted that China, Africa cooperation has been leading the way for other nations of the world to emulate.
Speaking earlier, the Nigerian Foreign Minister, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama thanked Mr. Wang and Chinese Deputy Minister of Commerce and other delegates who accompanied him to Nigeria for choosing Nigeria for their first visitation in 2021.
Onyeama informed that they held discussion with Mr. Wang and his delegation which led to formation of Inter Governmental Committee that will continue their discussion on corporation on Institutional Mechanism.
He revealed that their discussion focused on Transport, Health, Defence Sector Cooperation and on how best to stabilize Global Affairs System after 50 years of bilateral relations and 20 years of Forum for China Africa Relations (FOCAC).
