The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nigeria, Mr. Cun Jianchun, Ex-Senator and party leaders have described the Communist Party of China (CPC) as people centered political party that always put the people first in all its programs and proposals.
Mr. Cun in his keynote speech at the occasion of celebrating the 100 years of existence of Communist Party of China in Abuja organized by Centre for China Studies (CCS) with the theme: “CPC at 100: Trajectories, Achievements and Prospects” said CPC is a political party that breathes the same air and share the same future with the people.
He stated that CPC adheres to its fundamental purpose of serving the people wholeheartedly, and takes the people’s support, approval, happiness, and consent as the fundamental criterion for judging all its work.
He said to meet people’s aspiration for a better life is the goal of the CPC and that it has committed to serving and relying on the people.
Cun said the party that started as a small party with over 50 members has grown into a major party with over 91 million members and has long been a ruling party in the world’s most populous country which won the broadest support of the Chinese people.
He noted that “Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation” at Harvard University’ s John F. Kennedy School of © Government released a policy brief showing that the Chinese people’s overall satisfaction toward the Chinese government under the leadership of CPC exceeds 93 percent.
Speaking further, he said this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria.
His words, “China and Nigeria have enjoyed a strong ‘development on the basis of mutual respect, mutual trust and mutual support over the past 50 years.
‘Both sides cherish their friendship, respect each other’s core interests and major concerns, and uphold the principle of non-interference in internal affairs. The mutually beneficial China-Nigeria economic and trade relations have enjoyed a robust development, the scales and areas of cooperation continuously expand, and the modes of cooperation have been diversified.
“Projects like Abuja-Kaduna railway, Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone, currency swap, satellite launching, and joint marine scientific exploration, are the first of its kind in Africa” he noted.
Also speaking, former Senate Committee Vice Chairman on Foreign Affairs, Senator Shehu Sani said that CPC celebration of 100 years of existence was historic given the fact that its achievements transcend beyond Chinese people as China is found in every household in the world.
While appealing for China to help in curbing insecurity ravaging the nation, he stated that CPC had made us to see China everywhere and around us.
He said for the mere fact that China maintained stability in its soil given its huge population; it can also replicate it in Nigeria working with our security agencies.
Also speaking, Chairman of Action Democratic of Party, Mr. Yabagi Yusuf Sani said that CPC celebration has offered them the opportunity to deepen their resolve on what political party should be.
He said that CPC has shown that political parties should be agent of development in terms of delivering dividends of democracy to the people which it has achieved in China.
While thanking China for the role they played in helping Nigeria during the pandemic, he stated that what made CPC thick was its affiliation with the Chinese populace.
In his welcome remarks, Director of Centre for China Studies (CCS) Charles Onunaiju said CPC has earned the trust of the Chinese people, because it is disciplined, trustworthy, make sacrifices and own up to errors.
He informed that during the early years of national construction, especially the problems arising from the Great Leap Forward, the founder of modern China, Mao Zendong publicly owned to errors and made sacrifices for the growth of the nation.
“In the early years of national construction, especially the problems arising from the Great Leap Forward, Chairman Mao publicly owned to errors and when it comes to making sacrifices, the leadership of the CPC, including Mao slashed their salaries from 600 RMB to 404 RMB.
“Until he passed on, in 1976, he did not return his salary to its original, let alone increasing it. After the debacle of the Cultural Revolution, the party in special reflection of its own history acknowledged the error and introduced reforms and opening up” he said.
