Christmas Cheer: NUJ FCT Council Distributes Over 600 Bags of Rice to Journalists

Date:

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has reaffirmed its commitment to members’ welfare with the distribution of over 600 bags of rice to journalists in Abuja to mark the Christmas season.

The initiative, led by the NUJ FCT Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, forms part of the council’s annual welfare programme aimed at cushioning the effects of prevailing economic challenges while fostering unity and solidarity among members.

Earlier, Comrade Ike and members of the Executive Council held an end-of-year interactive session with the State Executive Council (SEC), comprising chairmen and secretaries of various chapels.

At the meeting, she briefed members on achievements recorded by the council, highlighting progress on the ongoing construction and remodelling of the NUJ Congress Hall. She called for sustained cooperation and collaboration to consolidate the gains made so far.

Members at the session unanimously expressed confidence in Comrade Ike’s leadership, describing it as proactive, pragmatic and performance-driven.

Speaking during the rice distribution, the NUJ FCT Chairman said the exercise was more than a seasonal gesture, stressing that it reflected the council’s deliberate commitment to members’ welfare. She explained that the initiative, now in its second year, was inspired by the positive impact of its maiden edition and the desire to ensure that no member is left behind during the festive period.

Comrade Ike reiterated the council’s resolve to support journalists who continue to face professional and personal challenges in the line of duty, while upholding the values of truth, accountability and public service.
