Coalition of Youth and Civil Society Organizations in Niger State has urged the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye to employ decorum, civility and caution about what affects the faith, societal values of people in the country.
The Convener of the group, Gambo Abubakar Mohammed made the call while briefing journalists on their stance about injunction of court order to stop the mass wedding of 100 orphan women sponsored by the Niger state speaker Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji.
He stated that the effort of the Minister will surely be in futility as they will ensure the injunction is quashed in the court, adding that she ignorantly jump into grey for cheap political recognition.
The group is demanding for a written apology on 5 national newspapers and television stations to Niger state, people of Mariga local government and the Niger state house of assembly speaker Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji for the disrepute brought on his personality.
The called on president Ahmed Bola Tinubu to immediately sack the Minister of Women Affairs Uju Kennedy Ohanenye for her reckless statements against their faith as Muslims, Northern values and the speaker.
Gambo Abubakar Mohammed reiterated that the speaker Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji out of magnanimity when approached by religious and traditional leaders wade in to be the father of those orphans and provided resources for the marriage requirements and modest support for family livelihood.
The group further adds: “where was the minister when several mass wedding was conducted in many northern states, when thousands of women and children were displaced, maimed by bandits unabated and if she had ever brought succor or personally visit the affected people in their communities, hence now claiming to be protecting them through Child Right Act.”
