Commissioner urges parents on regular immunization of children

As Yobe state joins other African nations in the celebration and the kickoff of a one week long immunization campaign to protect children against preventable child killer diseases, the state commissioner for health, Dr. Bello Kawuwa, has called on parents and caregivers to avail their children, especially those between one day and nine months of birth, the opportunity to be vaccinated regularly and to ensure completion of the immunization within their nine months after birth.
The commissioner, whose speech was read by Dr. Hauwa Larai Goni, the Executive Secretary, Yobe state primary health care board, on the occasion of the 2018 African Vaccination Week at the conference hall of the Yobe state primary health care board, explained that a total of five visits is expected by caregivers to take their children to health facilities from birth of a baby to 9 months, which gives the child the needed body immunity to withstand infections.
He equally called on parents to get needed information on the timing and scheduling of immunization of their children so as to ensure the children receive all the vaccines at the right time and right numbers.
He pointed out that the vaccination exercise which commenced yesterday would end on the 29th of April with series of activities that is meant to create awareness at both the state and local government areas and targeting selected wards in local government areas that has recorded low performance in the general immunization program in the state to ensure that children at the target age are immunized to protect them from known vaccine preventable child diseases.
