Confab: Secretariat staff in pains

Date:

National Conference secretarial staff could not function effectively yesterday following the commencement of committees sitting.

The staff, who had been enjoying a smooth working environment unlike the press that have neither secretariat nor the minimum working facilities since the conference started, had to grapple with working without basic tools for recording and taking as most of them work as rapporteurs.

The staff complaint that needed tools like computer, monitor and printer, ipad and other essential working tools were not made available despite the huge amount provided for these items in the budget.

According to two staff, who said they refused to go to NICON Hilton because they had envisaged myriads of problems since they were deprived of the facilities at the Nigeria Judicial Institute (NJI) where the main secretariat is, those who went outside the main venue had nothing to work with.

“Look, I won’t come here tomorrow unless they provide computers and other tools we need to work with; after all they are provided for in the huge budget. They can’t tell these were not provided for like they have being saying about provisions for the media.

“I don’t see myself going to NICON Hilton because if we are having difficulties with working tools here how will they, who are far from the main secretariat, have needed tools,” an angry senior staff said threatening that he would confront the boss in charge of rules and procedures, whom he alleged should have made these tools available.
