COREN approves accreditation of 19 engineering programme

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) said the Council has approved the accreditation of 19 programmes.
The President of COREN Engr. Kashim Ali who made the disclosure in Abuja while brief newsmen stated “ Indeed, after the council quarterly meeting ,the council approved accreditation requests of nineteen (19) institutions comprising engineering programmes
“For Universities 2 Institutions were visited:13 programmes were reviewed,5 programmes had full accreditation,8 Programmes had Interim accreditation “.
Engr.Ali added that Polytechnic: 6 institutions were visited,16 programmes were reviewed and I Foreign universities :3institution were visited, namely:Near East University, Nicosia Cyprus
University of Kyrenia,European University of Lefke 25 Programmes were visited,22 Programmes had full accreditation ,programmmes had Interim accreditation .
He also said that the following Engineering personnel were registered during the same period. In various cadres Engineers 701,Engineering Technologist 91,Engineering Technicians 4, Engineering Craftsmen 11 and Expatriates 15.
“Engineering Consulting Firms were also registered Sole Ownership 1, Partnership None, Limited Liability None , Corporate None “.
The COREN Boss who expressed his gratitude on behalf of the council and all the professionals in the built industry commends the Federal Government for the promulgation of the ‘Presidential Executive Order Five’ which gives clear preference to Nigeria companies, films and indigenous professionals with requisite expertise in the planning, design and executive of projects, programmes and contracts that have Science, Engineering and technologies components.
Meanwhile, Engr.Ali maintained that “COREN is moving in the right directions as far as her mandate sis concerned and I enjoin you to support COREN in the task of controlling and regulating the practice of Engineering in Nigeria by giving adequate publicity to its activities and in particular educating the general public on the Laws regulating the practice of Engineering in Nigeria. This is important because the Engineering sector is key to the development of any nation”.
