COREN inaugurates committee on amendment of engineers registration

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has inaugurated a committee on the Amendment of the Engineers Registration and other Acts as Amended, 2018.

This was contained in a statement signed and issued by Registrar, COREN
Engr. Prof. O.A.U. Uche.

It said the inaugural meeting was held yesterday at COREN’s Headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking at the meeting, COREN
President Engr.
Sadiq Abubakar, told the new committee that
the review of the Act is critical to strengthening engineering regulation to
align with global best practices.

Prof. Abubakar explained how important the review is, in ensuring that the profession remains responsive to emerging national and international realities.

He said the committee is expected to submit its final report within three (3) months.
“COREN remains committed to safeguarding the practice of engineering in Nigeria by ensuring its regulatory instruments are robust, forward-looking, and globally competitive”.
Similarly, the committee will be chaired by Engr. W. Kamila Maliki,
Engr. Ejikeme U. Mgbemena,Deputy Chairman, Engr. Mrs. Margaret Oguntala, Member, Rt. Hon Engn. Tech. Dominic Udoatan, Member, Engr. Isyaka Lawan, Member and Engr. Kam-selem Alhaji Bukar Member
Others are Hon. Umar U.Maikunkele,Member, Engr. Cyril O. Onyeneke,Member, Engr. Prof. O.A. U. Uche,Member,
Barr. Dr. A. Amin, Member, Engr. Barr. Folorunsho Oladoyin Member, Engn. Tech. Andrew Francis Onyilo Secretary and
Barr. Arowolo, Aituaje Precious Asst. Secretary.
At the inauguration, COREN President explained to the committee the Terms of Reference (ToR) mandate.
He said the mandate includes; Review of the Engineers Act 2018 to identify strengths and gaps; Engage stakeholders across the engineering and allied sectors; Benchmark findings against global best practices; and Recommend amendments to enhance COREN’s regulatory powers, improve disciplinary frameworks, strengthen institutional autonomy, and provide sustainable support for key programmes such as the Engineering Residency Programme (ERP).
