The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has tasked it members in Nasarawa state to uphold quality engineering practices and delivery in rendering their services or face sanctions.
The called was made by COREN President, Engr. Ali Rabiu during the commissioning of its state office in Lafia,Nasarawa State recently.
In his welcome addressed at the occasion, he said history was made as the desire of COREN to bring its services to the government and people of Nasarawa for defined effectiveness was achieved.
Ali said “By the commissioning of this office building, engineering practioners and stakeholdrers will come to the realisation that more than ever before. COREN has come to Nasarawa State to make the much needed statement that only excellence will henceforth be acceptable in the practice of Engineering in the State”.
“To engineering practitioners in Nasarawa State, remember that one good turn deserves another and to whom much is given, much is expected. I therefore urge you to always be in your best in project delivery.
The ERM will not tolerate any form of foul practice in the discharge of your duty. Always endeavour to be above board as worthy ambassadors of COREN in Nasarawa State.”
The council boss also appreciated the support of Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule for given COREN a piece land when they requested, he promptly approved .
“Today, in spite of your very tight schedule, you are here with members of your cabinet to commission the building. I indeed feel privileged and exceedingly proud of you.”
He said “we can acknowledge how Engineering practice has taken upward dimension in Nasarawa State through aggressive infrastructural development.
“It is not surprising considering the disposition of his Excellency to Engineering Excellence not only because he is an Engineer but because of his strong belief in development. Engineering Practitioners are therefore busy in the State”,he stated .
Engr. Ali explained that a lot more has to be done to remove the army of Engineering graduates roaming about from the street.
“We are not unaware of your conviction for indigenous capacity building, de – emphasizing foreign patronage and empowering indigenous practitioners I join this advocacy with you in reiterating the fact that no nation develops by depending solely on foreign capacity.
“We must therefore continue to encourage our own. The Executive order 5, recently signed by President Mohammadu Buhari GCFR, will go a long way to actualizing this advocacy if effectively implemented.
“To Engineering Practitioners in Nasarawa State, remember that one good turn deserves another and to whom much is given, much is expected. I therefore urge you to always be in your best in project delivery. The ERM will not tolerate any form of foul practice in the discharge of your duty. Always endeavour to be above board. Be worthy ambassadors of COREN in Nasarawa State”,he said
He also reminded the state governor of his promise to give a Toyota Coastal Bus for use by the ERM in the State.
“This bus will highly facilitate the work of the State Technical Committee and the State Expatriate Committee in carrying out their day to day monitoring activities effectively”.
