The Presidency yesterday described the Federal Government’s latest rating by the global anti-corruption watchdog, Transparency International (TI), as an acknowledgement of its efforts to tackle the menace in the country.
Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, had noted that Nigeria improved in the TI corruption rating by eight points in its Corruption Perception Index (CPI) for 2014.
In the latest report, Nigeria’s rating improved as it moved from the 144th position it was last year to 136 this year.
Okupe attributed the improvement in the rating to the creative and scientific method applied to fight corruption by the government.
Okupe also pointed out that Jonathan’s administration resolved to sign the Freedom of Information law and the privatization of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) have duets indicated its transparency and probity in doing official business in the country.
