Council lifts 18 months embargo on Zamfara School of Nursing

Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has approved a provisional accreditation of the Zamfara School of Nursing and Midwifery after 18 months embargo.

This was contained in a letter, signed by the Council Secretary, Mrs. E.C Azuike, and addressed to the Executive Director of the institution and made available to newsmen yesterday.

The letter, which conveyed the outcome of the last accreditation team visit to the institution in March 2014, indicated that the council has also restored an intake of fifty (50) students per year by the college effect from May, 2014.

The report however, highlighted gaps that the school is expected to rectify as recommended by the council before the expiration of the provisional accreditation period with a view secure full accreditation from the council.

According to the report, the institution should ensure the newly completed building projects such as Nursing demonstration room, female hostels and two classrooms are being put into use without delay, and internet facilities and services should be maximized to enhance teaching and learning needs of the college community.

The council called on the state government to recruit more qualified nurses and midwives to man the primary health care centres, especially the two being used for community experience.
