Court fixes June 20 for judgment over disputed property

Date:

An Abuja High Court yesterday fixed June 20 for Judgment in a suit by Mr Donatus Okonkwo against a businessman, Mohammed Zurmi, for failure to hands-off a disputed property.

Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf fixed the date after listening to the submission of the counsel to both parties. At the resumed hearing of the case, counsel to the plaintiff (Okonkwo) Mr Chris Uche (SAN), told the court that the matter was slated for adoption of final written address.

Uche argued that the defendant had not disputed that there were transactions between the parties.

“ My lord, the defendant did not dispute the fact he held the plaintiff`s money, since the transaction took place in 2007.

Uche therefore urged the court to enter judgment in favour of the plaintiff and award a substantial cost against the defendant. While opposing the submission, counsel to the defendant, Miss Rahmatu Mohammed, urged the court to dismiss the plaintiff’s argument.

Mohammed said the plaintiff did not establish any case against the defendant. She said that the plaintiff’s case lacked merit and urged the court to hold that the plaintiff failed to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt. (NAN)
