A High Court sitting in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State presiding over by Justice J.M Ayua has restrained the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), from conducting Ward Congresses in six local government areas of the state.
The local government congresses scheduled for Saturday August 10, 2024 will not hold in Buruku, Gboko, Guma, Kwande, Ushongo, and Konshisha pending investigation into the disruption of ward congresses in the areas on July 27, 2024.
The court’s decision followed a suit filed by Senator Emmanuel Orker Jev and several other plaintiffs on Wednesday, urging the court to stop the conduct of congresses in those LGs in order to protect the interests of the affected party members.
The court, therefore, held that the congresses in the affected areas would not hold until it resolves issues surrounding them as a motion on notice has been slated for hearing on August 16, 2024.
However, the court’s decision did not halt the state congress scheduled for August 31, 2024.
