Court jails dancer 6 months for impersonation

A Grade 1 Area Court, Lugbe, Abuja yesterday sentenced a 26 year-old dancer, Abdullahi Jubril to 6 months in prison on each of the three-count charge brought against him, plus 12 strokes of the cane.

The sentence will, however, run concurrently.

Jubril, who resides at Zone 4, Lugbe, Abuja, was arraigned on a three-count charge of impersonating a public officer by wearing a military uniform, when he is not a soldier, resisting arrest and assault.

The Presiding judge, Mr. Gambo Garba, however, gave him an option of fine of N5, 000 each on each of the counts.

He told the court that when the police officers wanted to arrest him, he inflicted injury on one of them while resisting arrest.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 132, 133 and 267 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
