Court orders continued remand of 2 over drug trafficking

Date:

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Friday, ordered the continued remand of two suspected drug traffickers, Innocent Okafor, 31, and Roseline Nnamani, 38, at the Ikoyi Prisons.

Okafor and Nnamani are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and drug trafficking.

Justice Musa Kurya ordered the continued remand of the accused, following the prosecution’s objection to their bail applications.

Kurya, subsequently, adjourned the case to June 6, to rule on the bail application.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the suspects were first arraigned on May 6 but pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded in custody.

At the resumed hearing, Counsel to the accused, Mr. Benson Ndakara, urged the court to admit his clients to bail.

He told the court that the accused had been in detention for six months which had affected their health.
