As part of the effort to reduce the spread of corono virus diseases, Jigawa state governor Alhaji Muhammed Abubakar Badaru, ordered for the immediate release of 74 Inmates from prisons in the state.
The governor announced the release order while addressing news men at the flagg-off of the disbursement of over N1.5 billion to 76,402 beneficiaries of national cash transfer programme in Aujara town Jahun local government area of the state.
He explained that, the pardoned inmates are those with minor offences and some with small fines to ensure more safety in the prisons across the state.
He said, social distance as one of the precaution measures against the spread of Covid-19 , while the high congestion in prisons seems to be tantamount to facilitate the spread of the Virus.
Governor Badaru added that, the government is all out to take any neccessary measures that can mitigate any possibility of contracting the disease in to the state.
According to him, more inmate with minor cases will be pardon across the state in this critical moment in which coronavirus is ravaging the world.
“It is in record in some countries many inmate with minor cases died as a result of contracting corona virus inside the prisons, so we must avoid this unfortunate incident to occur in our nation” he said.
The governor then called on the inmates that enjoyed the government’s kind gesture to be good ambassadors of the state and urged them to learn lesson from their past mistakes.
Meanwhile the governor also commended president Muhammad Buhari for the release of over N1.5 billion to share among the less privileges people in Jigawa state.
According to him, each beneficiary will be payed the amount of four months which is equivalent to N20,000 for each beneficiary.
He then called on the beneficiaries to utilize the money in a proper way for the betterment of all and the state at large.
