Worried about the health risks of the dreaded coronavirus otherwise known COVID-19, a medical expert, Abuja, Dr. Seidu Bello has called on the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to again, reconsider closing worship centres in nation’s capital city, because of their inability to comply with the established COVID-19 guidelines.
Bello opined that if worship places were suspended for some time, it would go a long way in controlling the spread of the virus, since it is still spreading in the FCT and other parts of Nigeria.
The medical expert, who gave the advice in a recent chat with journalists in Abuja, advised Nigerians to accept the reality that the COVID-19 pandemic is real, adding that it would remain with Nigerians for some time.
He insisted that the reality is that ordinarily Muslims and Christians should have forgotten about the idea of religious gathering for now, adding however that several people are feeling otherwise.
“So, people in government were under pressure to open up worship places. It is a delicate balance and it is unfortunate.
“Ordinarily we should have just relaxed for some time, but people feel that if they do not go to worship places to serve God, they will not make heaven.”
According to him, “Our government is under pressure by the society about their religion and we are all part of the society. It is a very difficult balance and I sympathize with the government.
“Although, government all over the world is opening up their economy so that people will not die. I will advice that everyone should adhere to measures that have been outlined to curb the spread of the virus.”
