COVID-19: Kano relaxes lockdown order for 12 hours

Kano state government has relaxed the ongoing lockdown order from 6am today (Thursday) to 12 midnight.
Recall that on Tuesday, April 14, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had imposed a one-week total lockdown effective from Thursday, April 16 after recording 21 cases of coronavirus in the state.
However, in a media briefing on Wednesday, Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, who is the Chairman of the Taskforce Committee on COVID-19, said the decision is to pave way for people to prepare adequaetly for Ramadan fasting.
He said “in view of preparation for Ramadan period ,the state governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has decided to relax the ongoing lockdown for only tomorrow from 12pm to12 midnight.
“The decision is to allow people to prepare adequaetly for Ramadan fasting. People should prepare food and other items for Ramadan period,” he said
However, the lockdown, according to the Deputy Governor, would continue from Friday until further notice, pending the improvement of the situation.
He also announced that the state government has banned annual tafsir and taraweeh prayers, adding that the ban on Juma’at prayer is still on.
