Covid-19: Katsina begins distribution of food

The Katsina State Government has commenced the distribution of assorted palliative food items donated by the private sector to selected 67,106 vulnerable household across the 34 Local Government Councils in the State.
The private sector made the donation of assorted food stuff as palliatives to Katsina State for distribution to the needy to reduce harsh economic condition been faced by the poor during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The private Sector Coalition has donated over 20 assorted food items for distribution to the less privileged in the State.
Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State disclosed this during the flag off of distribution of the palliatives yesterday in Katsina.
Masari said that a high powered committee was established to distribute the assorted food items at the state and local level.
“The Katsina State Government has so far received a total of 428,311 out of 469,742 assorted food items donated to the state by the private sector.
“The donors has assured us that the outstanding balance will be delivered to the State for distribution to the selected households” he said
Earlier, the Katsina Deputy Governor and Chairman COVID-19 pandemic, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, said that the State Committee against COVID-19 had received a cash and kind donation to the tune of over N1 billion.
Yakubu revealed that the committee had expanded the sum of N900 million in its fight against the pandemic in the State.
He disclosed that the committee had established over 25 isolation centers across the 34 Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
In his remarks, the representative of the private sector who donated the items, Alhaji Bello Muhammad said that their organizations had donated the food stuffs to cushion the effect of COVID-19 pandemic in Katsina State.
Muhammad said that the private sector was ready to provide more assistance to the needy in Katsina State.
