gov-Kwankwaso-2The Kano State Government on Monday said it had vaccinated more than 90 per cent of children below the age of five years against cerebra-spinal meningitis (CSM) in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, disclosed this at a news conference as part of the activities to commemorate the World Health Day in Kano.

“We have vaccinated more than 90 per cent of the people at risk against CSM between November and December 2013, which is above the 80 per cent standard requirement,’’ he said.

He urged people wishing to take the vaccination to visit any heath facility in the state as adequate vaccines had been provided in government health centres.

He advised people to avoid sleeping in overcrowded rooms or places to prevent possible outbreak of the deadly disease.

The commissioner said the state government would send 500 additional students abroad to study nursing and other related courses.

He said the screening of the students would commence soon.(NAN).
