CSOs urges EFCC to probe relationship between Gov Lawal, Emefiele, Dieziani

Date:

Association of Civil Society and Public Interest Organisation in Nigeria (CCSPION), has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to intensify its efforts in investigating the relationship between the governor of Zamfara State Dauda Lawal Dare, the former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele and former Minister if petroleum resources, Dieziani Aliso Madueke .

The group argues that tackling corruption requires a comprehensive approach that includes targeting both the perpetrators and those who facilitate corrupt practices.

National Coordinator, CCSPION, Abraham Ekokotu made the call at a press briefing, weekend, in Abuja.

Recall that the past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, in July was taken into custody by Nigeria’s secret police, the State Security Service (SSS), shortly after President Bola Tinubu suspended him from office.

Specifically, Ekokotu urged the EFCC to as a matter of urgency expose and hold accountable those individuals who aided and abetted any alleged corrupt practices of former CBN governor.

He said: “We call on the EFCC to remain steadfast in its fight against corruption in Nigeria and proceed to deal with any person who loots or launders, aids or abets another person to launder or loot from the public treasury so as to recover the looted funds make him face music.

Governor Dauda should not go scot free when all the evidence weighs against him, he brought to book like others who are currently facing trials on corruption charges at various courts.

Also, Ekokotu, called on Zamfara state governor Dauda Lawal, to make clarifications on the alleged name discrepancies on his certificates to ensure proper identification.

“We, of the above-named organization, have found it crucially necessary to raise the alarm on a growing need to unveil the governor of Zamafara State, Dauda Lawal whose documents bear several pseudo names leaving the people in confusion, in dilemma, in want of what to call their governor and how best to address him.

“According to available records, Lawal claimed to be born in 1965 and 1969 under different names. He swore to two different affidavits at the Supreme Court of Nigeria where he claimed to be Dauda Muhammed Lawal. In another breath, the same person on other documents is Dauda Ado Lawal.
