The Ahmadu Bello University committee on casual staff audit has submitted its report to the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adamu Ahmed.

The submission was made at the Vice-Chancellor’s conference room at the weekend.

 Presenting the report, the Chairman of the committee, Malam Dalhatu Salihu, explained that the committee was constituted on 14th January 2025 to conduct an audit of all casual staff and examine their mode of engagement and the cost of their wages.

Salihu stated that they obtained a comprehensive list of casual laborers in different departments and carried out physical verification.

According to him, the committee found that some casual laborers were over-utilized while some were underutilized.

He said some of the casual laborers were engaged in handling sensitive documents like payment vouchers and confidential documents.

The committee recommended that the University should initiate a process to harmonize all wages of casual laborers and that they should not be engaged in shift duties.

It also recommended that the University Management should consider converting some casual laborers’ appointments to tenure when the opportunity arises for those who performed diligently.

He also said that there should be an identification card for them to move around with during working hours.

Receiving the report, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, thanked members of the committee for delivering an excellent report.

Prof. Ahmed expressed delight in receiving the report on behalf of the University Management.
