Dahiru Bauchi: Fulani not responsible for killings in Nigeria

Date:

From Ahmad Mohammed Bauchi

A renowned Islamic Scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi has explained that Fulanis are not responsible for the spate of killings in some parts of the country and the killings has no religious colorations.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi spoke yesterday against clashes between alleged Fulani herdsmen and their host communities in some parts of the country while answering questions from reporters in Bauchi.
He said, ” Fulanis are not new, they are not guests in Nigeria, they are well known as one of the respected tribes, if they are killers they could have started killing hundreds of years back not now, the killers disguised and hide with the intention to paint a particular tribe black, Fulanis are known to have sticks and bow and arrows, but you are saying the killers have guns. Who gives Fulani herdsmen gun?
It’s the responsibility of a government to fish out the culprits and punish them.”
The scholar said, “if any one committed a crime, such person should be identified as a criminal and made to face the full wrath of the law, Fulanis lived with people across the world, they live peacefully, why should they take up arms against the people they have been living together with hundreds years ago?
Dahiru Bauchi noted that, “the basic responsibility of every government is to protect life, to protect shedding of blood, to protect human joints, to protect families, to protect properties and human dignity.”
He said the responsibility of the citizenry is to listen to the constituted authorities, to cooperate with them by being law abiding in order to have sustainable peace across the country.
The scholar said the spate of killings going on in some parts of the country has no religious colorations adding that the killers and their perpetrators were giving them religious colorations in order to cause confusion.
“ We have two dominant religion in Nigeria, Islam and Christianity both the two religion didn’t allow anyone to shed the blood of anybody to kill him, to take away his properties or burnt the entire properties such dastardly act it’s not permissible in any religion.
Dahiru Bauchi also called on the electorate to access the performance of their respective governments if they performed well , advised that they should not vote for them again to continue if they didn’t do well.
He advised Nigerians to vote people that they believe will improve their living conditions at the expiration of their tenure instead of taking up arms.
