Dangote Petroleum Refinery has resumed the sale of premium motor spirit (PMS) in naira less than 24 hours after announcing a suspension of the transaction.
The company’s decision to reverse course followed the intervention of the Chairman of the Naira for Crude Transaction Committee, Dr Zacch Adedeji, who also heads the Federal Inland Revenue Service.
The naira-for-crude initiative, introduced by the Federal Government through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, was designed to ensure local refineries received crude oil for domestic processing.
However, the scheme has struggled with inadequate crude supply, forcing the refinery to announce on Friday that it would halt sales in naira from Sunday, 28 September 2025.
Dangote explained that it had been selling petrol beyond its approved allocation under the arrangement and could no longer sustain the policy.
In a dramatic U-turn, the refinery later issued a counter notice to customers, confirming that naira sales would continue.
“Following the intervention of the Naira for Crude Transaction Committee Chairman, we are pleased to inform you of the resumption of PMS sales in naira commencing immediately,” the notice read.
Customers were advised to proceed with their orders for both self-collection and free delivery to designated locations nationwide.
