Calls him one of Nigeria’s finest Ministers of Finance
By Lateef Ibrahim Abuja
The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Minister of Finance, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, describing him as one of the finest public servants to have served Nigeria with distinction.
Senator Mark recalled that they served together in the administration of former Military President Ibrahim Babangida, where Alhaji held the portfolio of Minister of Finance while he served as Minister of Communications.
He said Alhaji’s tenure was marked by uncommon professionalism, integrity, fiscal discipline and an unwavering commitment to the nation’s economic development.
“Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji was a patriot in every sense of the word. He brought exceptional competence, wisdom and honesty to public service. His contributions to Nigeria’s economic management remain remarkable and enduring,” Mark said in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan on Thursday in Abuja.
The former Senate President noted that beyond his accomplishments in government, the late elder statesman was a humble, compassionate and selfless leader who devoted his life to the service of the nation and humanity.
Senator Mark said Nigeria has lost one of its most experienced administrators and a voice of reason whose counsel was always guided by the national interest.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Alhaji family, the Government and people of Sokoto State, and all Nigerians over the irreparable loss.
Mark prayed that Almighty Allah forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and comfort his family and loved ones with the fortitude to bear the loss.
