Niger State Government has said that all is set to plant 19 million trees across the state with the objective of tackling climate change and deforestation in the state.
The state commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Yakubu Kolo made the disclosure during the state weekly post exco press briefing at the government house Minna.
Kolo who was represented by his Permanent Secretary, Suraju Sa’eed explained that deforestation which has become a major challenge in the country needed to be resolved at all cost, hence tree planting became necessary and important to curb the menace.
In same vein, the state commissioner for Land and Survey, Maurice Magaji also revealed that the state government has approved 6hectares of land along Rafin Yashi to CCECC Contractors for their yard, stressing that the yard will bring development to the road as well as the youth will be involved in the economic activities around the yard to enhance economic activities around the area.
He added that the state will in no time reintroduce the monthly sanitation process as well as accrue machines that will help in waste recycling to generate revenue for the state.
Magaji announced that the ever first green summit is expected to hold in the state on the 24th and 25th October, 2023 at Justice Idris Lego Kutigi International Conference Center (JILK ICC) Minna.
