Delta Begins Emergency Repairs on Failed Warri-Benin Highway Section After Oborevwori’s Directive

The Delta State Government has commenced emergency repairs on the failed Mosogar-Oghara section of the Warri-Benin Highway following a directive by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori aimed at restoring safe and smooth movement along the busy federal road.

The Commissioner for Works (Urban and Highway), Mr. Reuben Izeze, announced the intervention during a news conference in Asaba on Thursday, stating that the governor approved the emergency repairs on July 23 in response to growing concerns over the deteriorating condition of the highway.

According to Izeze, the road had become increasingly hazardous due to potholes and pavement failures, resulting in traffic delays, vehicle damage and safety risks for commuters.

He explained that although the Warri-Benin Highway is a federal road, the Delta State Government decided to intervene because of its strategic importance to regional trade, transportation and economic activities across the South-South.

“The decision followed the increasing concerns of motorists over the deteriorating condition of the busy route, where potholes and pavement failures had caused delays and safety challenges,” the commissioner said.

Izeze disclosed that Obakpor Engineering Construction Company had already mobilised personnel, equipment and construction materials to the site and commenced repairs on the damaged sections of the highway.

He noted that the emergency intervention would improve traffic flow and ease the hardship faced by road users while the Federal Government finalises plans for a comprehensive reconstruction of the highway.

Describing the Warri-Benin Highway as a critical transport corridor linking the South-South with other parts of Nigeria, Izeze said the road plays a vital role in the movement of goods, agricultural produce and petroleum products.

He expressed optimism that motorists and residents would experience immediate relief as the temporary repairs reduce traffic disruptions and improve road safety.

The commissioner added that the intervention reflected the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to responsive governance, public safety and the welfare of residents.
