Delta govt resolves Batan – Diebiri community age- long crisis

The age- long crisis rocking Batan – Diebiri Community in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State over surveillance and grass cutting of Trans- Forcados Pipeline right of way, has been resolved by the state government.
Confirming this to journalists on Monday at a press conference in Asaba, Special Adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Chief Edwin Uzor, said that during investigations into the crisis, discovered that the community leadership was divided and serving individuals” interest, rather than collective leadership and community interest, adding after its mediation process and restoration of peace among the stakeholders, it was the duty of the community executive to recommend companies that would carry out contract venture to oil
According to him, the GMOU between Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited and host communities where OML30 and 42 facilities were situated in Delta State, was not between an individual and the company but between the community and the company for the purpose of recongnizing indigenous contractors and companies.
Uzor however called on the community leaders and stakeholders to stop heating up the polity over the award of contracts, adding that contractors who had subsisting contracts with the oil firms should be allowed, while equity and fairness should be adopted in reviewing contracts among Indigenous contractors.
