Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) in Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State are currently in pains over their 15 months unpaid salaries
The aggrieved health workers, especially those in the riverine communities, have alleged neglected even under the Covid-19 pandemic disease lockdown, a situation they were saddled with untold hardship and inability to feed properly in their various homes.
It was gathered that a total of nine health workers were engaged in the local government area to help assist the primary health facilities, especially the causal workers with Ordinary National Diploma ( OND) qualifications, were brought in to help assist with health care delivery in the difficult terrains, with the promise that they would be given permanent employment by the government.
They further alleged that years after the promises that were never kept, the CHEWs are still collecting paltry stipends as take home, despite appreciable evidence of their contributions to health care delivery services in their areas of deployment.
