Delta: Landlord’s son in police net for stabbing tenant

The Police in Obiaruku community in Delta state, have arrested one Sunday Okolie, for allegedly stabbing a tenant in his father’s house over electricity bill.

Reports said that the tenant was allegedly stabbed by the suspect when he failed to address his electricity bills after six months.

The victim (name withheld), currently said to be receiving treatment in an undisclosed private hospital failed to meet his financial obligations in regards to the electricity bills when trouble started.

Expectedly, the incident which occurred in the early hours of yesterday in the community, set tongues wagging even as leaders of the community described the incident as devilish, as the suspect was said to have conspired with his younger brother and allegedly stabbed the victim in the stomach.

Police Public Relations officer in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the arrest of the suspect, disclosed that the suspect, in his attempt to escape after allegedly committing the crime, was nabbed by other tenants in the house, who invited the police.

The DSP disclosed that the suspect is currently helping the police for further investigation, saying the suspect claimed he had requested payment for  lectricity bill from the tenant whom he said declined, adding that when the accused presented his own bill, it was discovered that the last time he paid was eight months ago, whereas he claimed to have paid in full.
