Delta sanitation taskforce seals off 65 buildings over default

Delta State government through the state Capital Territory Development Agency ( DCTDA) Taskforce on Tuesday sealed off 65 residential/ commercial buildings and arrested 41 defaulters in the exercise that was carried out with armed military men and policemen in Asaba
At a closely monitored taskforce operation by journalists, defaulters openly wept and stranded as the taskforce members enforced the laws to destroy makeshifts blocking drainages including walkway erected in lawless manners by these defaulters who were later taken away with Hilux van to their office around Awai road in Asaba
Starting from the summit end of Asaba to Ogbeogonogo market, the taskforce members including armed security agents, descended on stubborn defaulters, particularly residents and commercial buildings’ operators whose premises had been over grown with weeds and littered with used tissue papers, others, dumped empty cans.
But speaking to journalists, the Director General, DCTDA, Mrs Joan Mrakpor said that before the operation make Asaba clean, there was a meeting of the stakeholders where a 21 day ultimatum was issued and a grace of two weeks, massive sensitization of the people, adding that it was an embarrassment for government offices to be culprits in the sanitation war.
She said that, the sealed premises would be charged to court and made to pay fines for stressing and violating the state government’s laws after several warnings, and called on Deltans to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their environment, adding that the sanitation exercise would be sustained for a stronger and neater Delta.
