National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s democratic system, insisting that the country’s multi-party democracy must remain strong despite ongoing political challenges.
In a statement shared on his verified X account, the former Bayelsa State governor said the NDC was confronting what he described as “legal and contrived shenanigans” orchestrated by anti-democratic forces, expressing confidence that the challenges would eventually be overcome.
Dickson said he remained optimistic that the judiciary would uphold the rule of law and resist any attempt to use the courts as instruments to undermine democracy.
The former governor also lamented what he described as betrayal by individuals he had mentored and supported over the years, accusing them of using government institutions to remove political opponents from office, victimize innocent citizens and spread false propaganda.
According to him, such actions represent a departure from democratic ideals and a betrayal of the trust and opportunities he had extended to them and their communities.
Despite the challenges, Dickson said he was encouraged by the growing support for the NDC, noting that more Nigerians across different age groups and backgrounds continue to register with and participate actively in the affairs of the party.
He maintained that the resilience of party members and supporters reflects a shared determination to strengthen democratic governance and put Nigeria on what he described as the right path ahead of the 2027 general elections.
