The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), DIG Margaret Ochalla, has received the 2026 Gender Sensitivity Award in recognition of her contributions to gender inclusion, peaceful coexistence and professional policing in Nigeria.
Ochalla received the honour under the Individual Award Category of the 2026 Peace and Dialogue Awards, organised by the UFUK Dialogue Foundation Nigeria in collaboration with the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR).
The FCID, in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Funmilayo Eguaoje, said the award recognised Ochalla’s commitment to promoting gender sensitivity, inclusiveness and peaceful coexistence.
According to the department, the recognition represents not only a personal achievement for the DIG but also reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s growing commitment to gender-responsive policing, professional leadership and the protection of the rights and dignity of citizens.
The FCID described the award as a well-deserved recognition of Ochalla’s leadership and efforts to promote an environment where professionalism, fairness and equal opportunity remain fundamental values.
It noted that Ochalla’s position as the only female member of the Nigeria Police Force Management Team reflects her years of hard work, integrity, professionalism and commitment to service.
The department also commended the UFUK Dialogue Foundation Nigeria and the IPCR for recognising Ochalla’s contributions to gender-sensitive policing and peacebuilding in the country.
“The Force Criminal Investigation Department remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote justice, professionalism, inclusiveness, public confidence and sustainable peace across the country,” the statement said.
