Doguwa now Kano APC Chairman

Alhaji Haruna Umar Doguwa yesterday emerged the Chairman of the Kano state All Progressive Congress (APC), after the congress of the party was held in Kano yesterday.

Doguwa was the state commissioner for Higher Education before he emerged unopposed at the state congress where 36 other executive members were elected to hold various posts in the party.

The congress, which was attended by the Kano State Governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, his deputy, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and other party elders, took place at the Indoor Stadium, Sani Abacha Sports Complex in Kano.

The candidates, who emerged unopposed following reconciliation between the contestants by the party elders on Sunday, were elected by six delegates from each wards of the 44 Local Governments of the state.

Some party members who spoke to our Correspondent at the congress venue disclosed that the election of the executive members of the party was free and fair following reconciliation among contestants. They added that all the other contestants withdrew from the contest after the reconciliation.

Speaking, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, Secretary, Organising Committee, described the congress as hitch-free, adding the efforts and commitments of the state governor saw to the success of the congress in the state.

He said “ We thank God that this congress is peaceful which we believe is as a result of the commitment of the governor, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso to ensure a hitch-free congress. Today we, the APC stalwarts have come out en mass to elect our executive in order to defeat our opposition party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”

He further described that APC as a party founded to salvage the suffering masses in the country and called on the people to support the party for change.

Another delegate at the congress, Alhaji Kabiru Faragai, said he commended APC for conducting the congress and will support the party to win elections in the forthcoming local government polls in the state and general elections in 2015.

“I support my party APC to become the ruling party come 2015. I pray for its success always. I also commend the effort and commitment of the Kano State Governor Kwankwaso for ensuring a free and fair congress in the state.” He said

Hajia Lami Iyabo, a delegate from Kumbotso local government also joined her male counterparts in commending the conduct of the congress, saying “ I am very happy to witness this smooth congress. I praise the executive governor for this tremendous effort. May God help him, ameen”

The executive members elected at the congress include, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa as the Chairman, Alhaji Ali Danmaraya as his Deputy, Alhaji Rabiu Bako, Decretary and Salisu Sidi Abba, Treasurer, amongst others.
