Domestic airlines: Our operations significantly impacted by NLC/TUC strike

Domestic airlines say the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) strike has significantly impacted their operations.
On May 31, NLC and TUC declared an indefinite nationwide strike from June 3 over the federal government’s refusal to increase the minimum wage from N60,000.
Also, on June 2, aviation unions announced readiness to join the planned indefinite labour strike.
In separate statements on Monday, the airlines informed their passengers about flight disruptions across Nigeria and apologised for the inconvenience caused by the strike.
Air Peace notified its passengers about possible cancellations of flights throughout its network, however, the airline confirmed that only its regional and international flights will operate on Monday.
“We hereby notify the flying public that due to the ongoing strike action by the Nigerian Labour Union (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), there will be disruptions or possible cancellations of flights across our network today,” Air Peace said.
“Currently, only our regional and international flights are confirmed to operate today.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and hope for a swift resolution. We regret any inconvenience this may cause to your travel plans and appreciate your understanding and patience.”
Also, Max Air said its operations and services have been significantly affected by the strike.
The airline reiterated its commitment to resuming normal operations when the strike is resolved and the airports are reopened.
“In the meantime, we kindly ask for your patience and understanding. We encourage you to stay updated through our official communication channels for the latest information regarding flight schedules and services,” Max Air said.
Similarly, Ibom Air notified its passengers that its flight operations had been suspended until further notice.
The airline emphasised that the safety and well-being of its passengers and staff are its top priorities, assuring them that normal operations will resume once the strike ends.
Rano Air said its scheduled flights have not been allowed to take off due to the shutdown of airports nationwide.
United Nigeria Airlines announced that it is closely monitoring the situation to assess its impact on operations and will provide updates as needed.
“None of our scheduled flights has been permitted to depart the airport, significantly affecting our services and operations,” the airline said.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences this may cause to your travel plans.
“Please rest assured that we are actively monitoring the situation to evaluate its impact on our operations and will provide updates accordingly.”
Overland Airways also announced that flights across its entire network have been disrupted due to airport closures across Nigeria.
