Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, of the University of iIorin has advised educational institutions in the country on the need to train, package and repackage their graduates to enhance their employability or profitable engagement after schooling.
Abdulkareem gave the advice recently at the “CV Clinic and Employability Workshop Skills for University Graduates”, organised by the University of Ilorin Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) Unit.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that in this era of global unemployment and competitiveness in the labour market, it is only the well trained and employed graduate that can give back to their Alma mater.
Prof. Abdulkareem congratulated the Director of Unilorin SIWES Unit for initiating this laudable programme and observed that the workshop amongst other benefits will make the transition from the university to the world of work easier, and thus enhance students contact for later job placement.
In his address, the Director, University of Ilorin SIWES, Dr. WasiuRaji, disclosed that the workshop was designed for the graduating students to prepare them for the gradual transition from the world of campus to the world of work.
Dr. Raji explained that the workshop will help students navigate through the opportunities and challenges in the labour market to make them gainfully employed, become entrepreneurs or start successful businesses after graduation.
The Director pointed out that the SIWES Unit has been working assiduously to create opportunities for students to build competence and skill that will place them at the edge in a crowd of graduates in the labour market.
