Don laments high rate of youth unemployment in Bauchi

University Don with the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi, Professor Sani Abubakar Malami has lamented the manner in which youths in Bauchi state are left behind without any effort to harness their full potentials as an avenue that that can bring in economic prosperity.
The university don stated at an interactive session with journalists in Bauchi.
He said youth should see themselves as major stakeholders and catalyst for a positive change that can contribute immensely towards the economic prosperity of their respective communities and the country and not as pawns that can be used and discarded by self-centered interest groups or individuals.
The don, who was full of enthusiasm about the potentials of youths in Bauchi state, shared his experience about other developing countries saying “ in Philippines and other Asian countries, their governments and the private sector established so many health institutions that trains Nurses, Midwives and other health personnel.
Apart from meeting the ever increasing demand of their hospitals for such skilled personnel, other countries around the world also recruit those skilled personnel too for their hospitals which, in turn, attract foreign exchange for the exporting country. Here in Nigeria and Bauchi state in particular we can also harness the potential of our Youths in other sectors like engineering, sports, tourism, agriculture and so many endeavors that are abound here at home where our teeming youths are redundant”.
Malami said the last two years has not been easy for the citizens of Bauchi state maintaining that “my vision for Bauchi state is of an optimistic, self-confident and a prosperous state in which mutual trust, economic and equal opportunities exist for all, irrespective of background.
The don said, “My dream of a new Bauchi state in which every young person can hope, aspire and reach his or her fullest potential.”
