The Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reiterated its resolve to rid Abuja of the menace of illegal motor parks, tricycles, commercial motorcycles and unroadworthy vehicles, in order to improve safety of lives and property in the city.
In particular, DTRS implored those involved in causing the menace to desist from such negativities, as personnel of the DRTS will not be tired in driving the ongoing effort to clean the city.
The Directorate’s Head of Operations, Osho Deborah, made this assertion yesterday, during a routine clean up exercise to some of the notorious spots in Area 1 through Apo bridge and roundabout as well as major road corridors within Apo, Gudu, Galadimawa and Lokogoma areas.
Osho disclosed that during the exercise about 15 motorcycles around Games village, and 20 vehicles including tricycles were impounded for various offences raging from operating, in illegal parks and roadworthiness in the city.
She added that the impounded motorcycles will be crushed while the vehicles that are unroadworthy will be fixed before they will face the mobile court, and those picked from illegal parks will also face the mobile court sitting at their various offices.
Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), FCTA, “What we are doing today is just part of the ongoing general clean up of the city. So it is in continuation of what we have been doing for some weeks ago. Yet, the city is littered with a lot of dirt and negativities.
“We went after illegal motor parks- that’s those that are parking on unauthorised places; we went for commercial motorcycles that are not allowed in the city. This will pass a message to Abuja residents that negativity is not allowed. All manner of traffic offences and nuisances are not allowed. We should respect traffic laws and we will find it easy.
“To those involved in this menace, they should know that we, personnel of the DRTS are not relenting in our effort to clean the city, and they should know that we are not going to be tired, so they should just desist from such acts”, she stressed.
On his part, Secretary Command and Control, FCTA, Peter Olumuji, said clearing of all form of nuisances, will bring about security of lives and property in the long run, which is what the residents of FCT want.
According to him: “We should ensure that everybody is ready to play their parts, and we in the enforcement team are all out to ensure that we enforce the law. Orderliness must be restored back to FCT.
“We all want a sane and decent city, but we are not ready to do the right thing. Every resident in the FCT is expected to do the right thing, so that FCT will can be dream we all want our children unborn to enjoy, and that’s why we always are out there.”
