The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismissed as false a viral Facebook post alleging that the Service arrested one Evangelist Ukpo Daniel for raising a false alarm about a supposed Fulani herdsmen attack during a crusade in Agboda Village, Nasarawa State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Favour Dozie, said the Facebook post—authored by the evangelist’s wife, Elizabeth—was misleading and appeared aimed at portraying the DSS in a negative light and stirring unnecessary public tension.
According to the DSS, Evangelist Ukpo Daniel was neither invited nor arrested by the Service. Dozie explained that when the DSS contacted Elizabeth, she confirmed that she was with her husband at the Police Headquarters in Lafia, not in DSS custody as suggested on social media.
The Service expressed concern that such misinformation could inflame tensions and disrupt security operations, especially at a time when verified communication is essential for national stability.
The DSS urged Nigerians to rely on authentic and verified information sources and resist the spread of falsehoods that could undermine public peace and security.
The statement concluded with a renewed call for responsible use of social media platforms to avoid fueling disinformation capable of distorting national security narratives.
