SSS jailbreakBy Lawrence Olaoye

Operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS), yesterday arrested, quizzed and discharged the outspoken Senator Joseph Waku over comments considered to be inimical to the corporate existence of the country.

Although the service did not respond to inquiries on why the Senator was arrested around 1 pm yesterday, our source disclosed that he was quizzed over an interview he granted a national daily a few days ago, wherein he criticized the government for dragging the military into politics by using soldiers to prosecute election in both Ekiti and Osun states.

The source equally disclosed that Waku was arrested for saying in the interview that President Goodluck Jonathan either hands over peacefully to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015 or be prepared to plunge the nation into a civil war.

In the interview, Waku allegedly made scathing comments against the government and the leadership of the National Assembly.

Asked whether the President could conduct a free and fair election in the interview, Waku said “Jonathan will want to sit somewhere and announce the result using the military but Nigerians will stop him. Two things will happen in 2015; Jonathan will lose election and go home freely or he will sit in the villa to announce result and there will be civil war.”

It would be recalled that several elder statesmen, including former Military President Ibrahim Babangida, had condemned the deployment of military for the conduct of elections in the country.
