Edo Assembly grants Obaseki’s request to appoint 15 SA’s

The Edo House of Assembly on Monday granted the State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki’s request to appoint 15 Special Advisers.

This comes barely five days after the Governor held a meeting with Edo Peoples Democratic party (PDP) leaders at the Government House, Benin.

The approval was contained a letter dated March 31 and signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Barr. Osarodion Ogie, requesting the house to approve the appointment.

Part of the letter reads: “I write at the instance of the governor,  His Excellency,  Mr Godwin Obaseki to inform the honourable house of the need to appoint Special Advisers to the governor.

“Accordingly, Mr governor has directed me to seek the kind approval of the house for the appointment of 15 Special Advisers to the governor,” Ogie said.

Commenting on the Governor’s request, the Majority Leader of the house, Mr. Henry Okhuarobo, urged members to approve the request, adding that, it was the first step to constituting the State executive Council.

Consequently, the house unanimously in a voice vote approved the governor’s request to appoint the15 Special Advisers.

The house Speaker, Mr. Marcus Onobun thereafter directed the Clerk of the house, Yahaya Omogbai to convey copies of the approval to the Governor for immediate action.

Since November 12, 2020, Obaseki was sworn-in with his deputy, the Governor has not constitute his cabinet, raising dust withing the main opposition party – All Progrssives Congress Congress (APC).

But he had appointed his SSG, Mr. Osarodion Ogie.
