Edo Queens emerge champions of 2026 NWFL Premiership season

Edo Queens Football Club have on Sunday June 14, emerged champions of the Nigeria Women Football League 2025/2026 season after amassing ten (10) points in five games at the Super Six tournament in Port Harcourt, Rivers state,
Edo Queens ended the campaign with a barren draw against Bayelsa Queens on the last match day of the one-week-long Super Six, which drew the best six teams in the league to compete for the coveted title.
The former WAFU-B champions had arrived at the super six not as a clear favourite after finishing second behind Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens in group A of the regular season and started the journey on a disappointing note after suffering 1-0 to Nasarawa Amazons in the first match of the campaign.
The team picked up from the second game, inspired by Chioma Moses as they recorded a hard-fought 2-1 win over FC Robo Queens to launch into an unstoppable locomotive.
The match day three saw the Moses Aduku-led side thrash Abia Angels 6-2 to further assert their intention to other opponents in the race — in form forward, Chioma Moses was once again the queen of the day with a double brace over the Abia ladies.
Match day four was a “war” against the host team, Rivers Angels and it took substitute, Precious Oscar to come off the bench to give the team leader —levelled on term after resumption of the second half, but the Benin city based Queens did not falter, digging more deeper to earn their authority over long term rivals —Chioma Moses once again put up another stellar performance to get her team the win, 14 minutes from time —the team’s belief to win the trophy for the second time in three years regained string energy, heading into the final day.
Destiny beckoned on the final day, and there was no margin for error. Edo Queens entered the decisive encounter knowing that a draw against defending champions Bayelsa Queens would be enough to reclaim the NWFL Premiership crown—provided Nasarawa Amazons failed to defeat Rivers Angels in the other crucial fixture.
With grit, discipline and determination, Edo Queens held firm until the final whistle to secure a hard-fought goalless draw against Bayelsa Queens. At the same time, Nasarawa Amazons and Rivers Angels played out a stalemate at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, sealing Edo Queens’ status as NWFL Premiership champions once again.
Edo Queens are now two-time champions of the league and have reclaimed the trophy they last won in 2024, against the defending champions.
By winning the league again, the girls will once again fly the country’s flag on the continent in the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers —WAFU-B
