EFCC arraigns man over N800,000 ATM fraud in Benue

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Makurdi zonal office yesterday arraigned one Akintunde Ogunrinde (a.k.a Kekere) on a one – count charge of intent to defraud one Ademola Adewuyi to the sum of N800,000.
Ogunrinde is alleged to have used a UBA ATM card belonging to Adewuyi to obtain the said amount from a UBA ATM machine.
He was arraigned before Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon sitting at the Federal High Court Makurdi, Benue State.
According to the office of the zonal head, EFCC Makurdi, stated that they had received a pettition from a complainant against Akintunde Ogunrinde (a.k.a. Kekere) alleging that Akintunde and one Alhaji Baba (a.k.a. White) now at large used an ATM card belonging to victim to obtain unauthorized money from his account. The Defendant and one other were alleged to have committed conspiracy, aiding and abetting; offences under Cybercrime.
Furthermore, the charge against Akintunde read:
“That you Akintunde Ogunrinde (a.k.a. Kekere) sometimes in 2019 in Nigeria, within the jurisdiction of this honourable Court with intent to defraud, used an UBA ATM card belonging to one Ademola Adewuyi to obtain the sum of N800,000 (Eight Hundred Thousand Naira) only and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to Section 33 (1) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention ETC) Act, 2015 and punishable under section 33 (2) of the same Act.
The accused, however, pleaded ‘not guilty’ when the charge was read to him.
During the hearing, Prosecution counsel, G. G. Chia-Yakua, asked for a trial date and urged the Court to remand the accused in prison custody.
However, counsel to the accused I.M.Mari made an oral application for bail of his client on liberal terms which the prosecuting counsel raised an objection to but the Court however, granted the oral bail application of the Defendant. He opposed the oral bail application of the defendant.
Justice Olajuwon granted bail to the accused in the sum of N500,000. 00 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) with one surety in like sum.
The condition for bail is such that the surety must present a letter of identification to the Court, show evidence of tax clearance, must reside in Makurdi and submit two recent passport photographs the address of the surety must be verified by the registrar of the Court and the prosecutor must verify the documents the surety present to the Court.
Justice Olajuwon ordered that Akintunde Ogunrinde been remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail conditions and adjourned the case to November 21, 2019 for trial.
