EFCC, aviation ministry gear effort to checkmate corruption

The ministry of aviation and the Economic and Financial Crime Commission EFCC, are both gearing efforts together to checkmate loopholes through which funds are stolen from agencies in the ministry.

The two federal agencies at an anti-corruption interactive session in Lagos said the industry remain the catalyst to unlocking the country’s economic development as the airports serve as entry points into Nigeria.

Speaking at the session, Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka urged staff of the Federal airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to always consider how their actions would add value to the sector and make it more efficient and customer friendly.

Chidoka added the staff had no reason to undermine the system because they had a stake in it and appealed to them to ensure that service delivery to passengers and other airport users is carried out

according to establish international standards and best practices. Meanwhile Chidoka has charged managers of airport to improve on service delivery in line with the transformation in the aviation sector.

He spoke at a Ministerial Performance Management System Orientation for Regional and Airport managers in Lagos where he said key performance indicator have been introduced to ascertain their performance. He said the essence of the orientation is “To develop and profitably manage customer centric airport facilities for safe, secure and efficient carriage of passengers and goods at world class standards”.

He said that measures had been put into place to assess the performance of airport managers through their services to customers explaining that “users of our airports must be given priority in service delivery”.

FAAN’s Director of Airports Operations, Capt. Henry Omeogu said improved performance by Airport Managers is key to the actualization of the Authority’s vision of being among the best airport groups.
