Eid-el-Fitr: Sultan tasks journalists on objectivity, adherence to ethics

From Bashir Rabe Mani in Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged journalists in the country to uphold objectivity as well as ethics of the noble profession.

The Sultan spoke at his Palace on Sunday in Sokoto when the members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, paid him the traditional Sallah homage.

“You should discharge your constitutional duties responsibly, diligently, patriotically and honestly.

“You should never operate like the social media practitioners who have no any respect for any ethics or objectivity.

“This is very crucial to sustainable peace, unity, security and the socio-economic prosperity of Nigeria,” he said.

The traditional ruler who congratulated the members of the pen profession for the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, said, ” we should all be grateful to the Almighty Allah for witnessing this epochal moment.”

The Chairman of the council, Usman Mohammed Binji had earlier told the Sultan that the visit was to congratulate him and the members of the Sultanate Council of Sokoto on successfully marking the end of the Ramadan fast and the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Binji applauded the Sultan for being steadily media-friendly, promising to sustain the extant cordial relationship between the Sultan, the Sultanate Council of Sokoto and the union.
