El-Rufai must submit to scrutiny – Northern frontiers

The Northern Youth Frontiers has urged former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to subject himself to investigation over allegations of mismanagement of state resources during his time in office.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Sama Musa, the group said accountability is non-negotiable for any public officer, past or present.

Musa accused El-Rufai of resisting calls to probe his administration, warning that such defiance undermines both democratic governance and public trust.

“Public office is a sacred trust, and those who occupy such positions are duty-bound to uphold the highest standards of integrity,” the group said.

The youth body recalled that El-Rufai, who once positioned himself as a champion of good governance, now appears evasive when asked to account for his actions in office.

It further cited some of his controversial remarks, including his claim that his private security network was larger than the police force and his admission that ransom and supplies were provided to bandits during his administration.

“These admissions are alarming and damaging to national security. The consequences of his governance choices cannot be swept under the rug,” Musa said.

The group insisted that El-Rufai must demonstrate leadership by willingly engaging in legitimate inquiries, noting that accountability is both a personal responsibility and a societal necessity.

It argued that facing scrutiny would help restore faith in political institutions and strengthen transparency in governance.

“We stand firm in promoting accountability and transparency. The time for accountability is now, and we call on Mr El-Rufai to rise to the occasion,” the group declared.
