Election mishap: FCT Minister commiserates with injured policemen

The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has commiserated with the policemen who were injured last week, while being deployed for Area Councils’ election duties in the Territory.
Recall that the 44 policemen were injured on the 8th of March at the Gwagwalada area of the FCT while being deployed for election duties. And of all the officers who were injured in the accident, only seven have been treated and discharged.
It was gathered that while two officers each are being treated at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada and the Police Hospital in Area One Garki, the other three are being treated at the National Hospital.
However, a delegation led by the Acting Director of Security, Mr. Adamu Gwari, FCT Administration, consisting of medical doctors and officers from the FCT Police Command visited the injured officers on admission at the National Hospital, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada and the Police Hospital at Area One.
At the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, (UATH) Gwagwalada, the delegation was received by the Chief Medical Director, Professor Bissallah Ekele and the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee Dr. Nicholas Baamlung.
In his remarks, Mr. Gwari said the team was in the hospital at the behest of the FCT Minister who was extremely saddened by the accident that left some of the 44 policemen involved in the accident with various degrees of injuries.
He further said the Minister has urged the policemen not to be disheartened by the accident but thank the Almighty for sparing their lives.
According to a statement signed by Mr. Anthony Ogunleye, the Chief Press Secretary to the FCT Minister, the FCTA will liaise closely with the doctors to ascertain the manner of assistance to render to the brave policemen.
The UATH’s Chief Medical Director thanked the Honourable Minister’s delegation for the visit and commended the FCTA for the tremendous assistance it has been rendering to the hospital
Similarly, at the National Hospital, the Minister’s delegation was received by the Head of Information, Dr. Tayo Haastrup who led them to the injured officers. He also commended the FCT Minister for showing so much concern for the welfare of the injured policemen.
One of the injured policemen, Inspector Abdulkareem Shuaibu, who is on admission at the UATH thanked the FCT Minister for the visit and expressed satisfaction with the quality of care he was receiving at the Hospital.
