Senator Abdullahi Adamu, leader of Senators opposed to the reordering of election sequence by the Senate, has reiterated that his colleagues pushing to veto President Muhammadu Buhari had no required number to succeed.
Speaking to our Correspondents on the reintroduction of the Bill at the plenary, Sen Adamu said they were only engaged on Media war because they had the resources.
He said his camp may not have the resources, but they had the number to thwart the efforts of the opposing senators.
He explained that the reintroduction of the Bill on Tuesday was the beginning of a process towards vetoing the President.
He said: “It has to pass through all the processes of first reading, second reading, public hearing and then the third reading before the vote. And those who want to veto the president have to secure as much as 73 votes plus the clerk to succeed.
“They know they don’t have the number. They are only engaged in a psychological war, a media war; and that is because they have the money. We don’t have the money to match them on that, but we have the number.”
He reiterated that his colleagues know his stance on the matter, adding that his camp had been meeting in his house.
“We have been meeting on this, and it is not in secret because it holds in my house. It would be foolish to think a meeting of 40 people can be in secret.
“They know my view on this and I have no apology for that. As a citizen of Nigeria it is within my right and more so as a Senator. So holding opinion on this matter is within my right. I don’t belong to those who want to override the President and those in opposition know they don’t have the required number to do so.”
