Elite bane of Nigeria’s crisis – Gumi

A foremost Islamic cleric, Sheikh Mahmood Abubakar Gumi, has said the elites class are the major problem bedeviling Nigeria’s society today, saying insecurity, economic backwardness and social challenges could be traced to them.
He stated this when he received the General Overseer of Evangelical Bible Outreach Ministry International, (EDOMI), Prophet Isah El-Buba, who paid him a courtesy visit in Kaduna yesterday.
According to him, the so-called super class have succeeded in dividing the country along ethno-religious lines for their selfish purposes.
He added that the elite class succeeded in creating poverty in land, and all the security challenges being experienced in the country are as a result of the divisions created by them.
“People are poor today, all the kidnappings, banditry and armed robberies, among others are ways of the masses to express their anger about the system.
“Unless the elites who are mostly politicians stop living in presumed paradise amidst poverty and rancor, they would soon be paying for their mischief,” he said.
The Islamic scholar said that education is what the North needs today to help the region grow, and the leaders are unwilling to let the people have such qualitative education because of their greed.
Dr Gumi disclosed that Goodluck Jonathan and President Muhammadu Buhari are not good for Nigeria because they lack proper education to stire the affairs of the country.
Speaking earlier, Prophet El-Buba, said he is on a Nationwide tour to salvage the country, and he needs fearless people like Sheikh Gumi to achieve his mission.
El-Buba said Nigeria did not find herself where it is today, but it is a result of long years of misrule, adding that the most painful thing is that it’s getting worst daily and nobody seems to care.
“You need to go out today and see the kind of hardships in the land. My friend, our people are suffering, they have suffered. I and you cannot fold our arms to allow this to continue.
“We must start with the masses to let them know that they have to come out and vote for leaders that can lead them in future. So, we have to start inculcating in them this orientation.
“For the past 20 years we have been unfortunate to have politicians who cared for themselves and families.
“The present President came in with a slogan of change and fighting corruption, but it seems that those he want to fight has overpowered him and the masses are the ones paying the prize.
“However hope is not lost as we are on the move to salvage our country especially the northern region, to return it back to the good old days,” he said.
