Kaduna, Nigeria – Emirates FC has emerged as the winner of the first Radio France International (RFI) Hausa Peace and Unity Soccer Tournament, defeating Ikhana Babes 1-0 in the final held at the LEA Chawai football pitch in Tudun Wada, Kaduna.
The match, attended by thousands of spectators and distinguished guests, demonstrated the power of football to unite people. The Chairman of the Kaduna State Football Association, Honourable Faisal Abdullahi, represented by the Soba Local Government Football Council Chairman, Alhaji Zakari Ya’u Inuwa, praised the organizers for fostering peace and unity through sports.
Director of Hausa Service at Radio France International, Mr. Joe Perry, stated that the tournament took place in Kaduna State because it is considered the birthplace of football. “We are prepared to support more football tournaments in Kaduna State in future years,” he added.
Emirates FC, the champions, received a cash prize of 300,000 naira (#300,000), along with a certificate and a large trophy. Ikhana Babes, the runners-up, received two hundred thousand naira (200,000), a certificate, and a trophy. Maraba Stars and Young Eagles, who finished third and fourth, each received 150,000 naira and additional gifts.
Individual awards were also presented to outstanding players, including Mu’awuya Yusuf of Ikhana Babes, named Most Valuable Player; Ibrahim Mohammed of Maraba Stars, Best Goalkeeper; and Yusuf Baba Bello of Maraba Stars, Top Goalscorer.
Eight teams participated in the tournament, showcasing the region’s top football talents. The RFI Hausa Peace and Unity Soccer Tournament is a commendable initiative that encourages unity and sportsmanship within the community.
